  Mangosteen in syrup:

One of the most praised and sometimes called the King or Queen of all tropical fruits, the mangosteen, Garcinia mangostana L.. but rare outside South East Asia, and expensive when available.

The mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is a tropical evergreen tree, believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands and the Moluccas. The very slow growing tree grows from 7 to 25 meters tall with a pyramidal crown

The fruit has a dark-purple to red-purple and smooth outer skin up to 8mm thick; the size of a mandarin 3.5 -7.5 cm in diameter, with 4 to 8 triangular segments of snow-white, juicy, soft flesh in it. The fruit may be seedless or have 1 to 5 fully developed seeds, ovoid-oblong, somewhat flattened, that cling to the flesh. The flesh is slightly acid and mild to distinctly acid in flavor, is acclaimed as exquisitely luscious and delicious and seems to melt in the mouth.
